Onco-Epidemiological Analysis of a Research Hospital in Campania, conducted for the Years 2022-2023-2024: Carcinomas with the Highest Incidence by Age and District, Mobility and Interventions Performed

Abstract

Background/objectives: Cancer is the cause of death for 6% of Italian citizens. The analysis aims to raise awareness by monitoring the incidence of the most common carcinomas through prescriptions in a research institute, comparing the years of interest.

Methods: The data was extracted using the company's computer database: Patient and doctor details, local health authority, cycles, department, therapeutic indication, dose and procedures performed.

Results: A total of 11,062 patients were treated, 55% of whom were women. The highest number of patients assessed by the local health authority were from Naples, followed by Caserta, Salerno, Benevento and Avellino. Of the total, 742 were from outside the region. The age groups with the highest incidence are 58-78 years for 2022, 54-74 for 2023 and 53-73 for 2024.The most common diagnosis in 2022 is breast cancer with 720 patients, followed by 676 in 2023 and 721 in 2024. This is followed by melanoma, with 535 cases in 2022, 376 in 2023 and 643 in 2024. Finally, colorectal adenocarcinoma with 497 in 2022, 544 in 2023 and 630 in 2024. The age incidence report shows that: Under 25, the most frequent diagnosis is Hodgkin's lymphoma; from 30/60, it is breast cancer; from 60 to 80, it is malignant melanoma and colorectal adenocarcinoma; over 80, it is squamous cell carcinoma of the skin.

Conclusion: The analysis shows that the number of tumours is increasing. Breast cancer remains the most common type of cancer, especially among women aged 30/60, followed by melanoma and colorectal adenocarcinoma. Screening is key to survival.
